The O-ring will be white, clear or red in color. Lubricate the O-ring with common household vegetable oil, canola oil, etc. (this can be done by pouring a little oil on a paper towel and applying it to the O-ring or wetting your finger with vegetable oil and applying it to the O-ring). Why are the birds dying in my back yard?
I love the sound of birds -from early in the morning til sundown. I feed the neighborhood birds by putting a lot of bird seed on the ground and in my bird feeder which is hanging from a branch. Well within the last week, I have found 3 dead birds.- They look like Orioles (small birds that chirp loud). I buried them in my yard and started a bird cemetery without the markings. I have a clean bird bath that I change the water every single day. I just don't understand why they are dying in my yard. Of course all the bird seed attracts other kinds of birds like pigeons, black birds and yes even squirrels. I want to keep feeding them but what is causing them to die? Last year, I only lost (1) bird.
If your yard is a haven for birds, they will most likely come there when they are elderly or ill. It is not uncommon to have one or two die in a year.
With three dying within a week, I would suspect some type of poison that they may have gotten into.
If you find any more dead birds, with rubber gloves, pick it up, put it in a plastic bag, and put it in the freezer. Then call the County Health Department to come get the bird and do a necropsy on it to determine the cause of death.
Have any of your neighbors complained about the birds? I am not saying they would, but people have been known to put out poisoned food for wildlife they think are a nuisance. (Hard-hearted ogres!) This is against the law, incidently.
